March 2009: Zac is nearly 5 years old now and my top trial dog. He's very consistent at the sheepdog trials, finishing in the placements nearly every weekend that he runs. I moved Zac into the Open class at a very young age, just over 2 years old, and he began placing almost immediately. Over the last year and a half, he's been laid up a couple of times due to a persistent muscle injury, but he always comes back and picks up right where he left off.
Zac has a medium sort of eye, is a natural outrunner with very good feel for his sheep, clean flanker, and is a tremendous listener. Sheep tend to really like him. He's a very exuberant type of dog with tons of go-go-go and a real "cowboy" attitude about work - it's never done and he's always ready for more. He's always been extremely keen to work and that is reflected in his responsiveness to command and quick reactions. He's a lot of fun to work and a real team player.
Even though he is an energetic dog in working situations, Zac is an easy dog to live with, relaxing nicely in the house and a real gentleman to have around. He's kind of sweet and goofy and playful, and always ready to join in whatever is going on.

And at 9 weeks old, the calendar boy!
